Content Planning - January 2021 Social "Holidays"

Happy 2021 friends! Wow, it feels great to start a fresh, new year. Let’s make this year the one where you get ahead and plan your social media content so there is no stress, just pure social fun! Check out the below list of social media “holidays” in January to jump-start planning for the year.

Here are a few ideas to spark some inspiration for planning out your content this month:

  • Already know some of your goals for your business in 2021? People love reading these! Wish everyone a happy new year and share some of your goals on January 1st.

  • We love National Trivia Day on the 4th. Think of this as an opportunity to “gamify” your Instagram/Facebook Stories and quiz your followers on your business so they can get to know you better and have fun while doing it! Plus, it gains you extra engagement!

  • Own a brand related to self-care or beauty?! Don’t miss National Bubble Bath Day on January 8th.

  • Have a strong group of entrepreneurs following you? Host a Zoom vision board party on National Vision Board Day on January 11th. Make sure to promote it beforehand!

  • Martin Luther King Jr. Day is January 18th. Remember to only post on this day if you have something valuable to add to the conversation on such an important holiday. No “Happy MLK Day” fluffy posts or pure sale related posts.

  • Remember Inauguration Day is January 20th - you don’t want to be tone-deaf here if you’re planning out content in advance and forget this day!

  • There are a few days like National Croissant Day on January 30th that feature baked goods or foods. Think about this if you are a food brand or share recipes! Also, these are great excuses to engage with local bakeries or restaurants to support small and give them a shout out or send a surprise to a follower from their locations.

Hope you enjoyed these thoughts, make sure to share this blog if you use these ideas or send them along to friends looking for support on social! You can tag us @pinckneypalm on Instagram!

PS: Here are our usual reminders about these "holidays":

  1. Don't post on more than one or two of these "holidays". No one wants to follow an account that's just full of National "Days". Rotate your other “content pillars” on the other days of the week. Aim to post 5 days a week on your Instagram Feed and Stories!

  2. Make sure it ties into your brand! Why does it matter that you're chiming in on this day? Why should someone care? Can you tie your product or service to that day?

  3. Get your hashtags right! Ensure that you've got the one main hashtag and any related hashtags to this holiday ready to go when you post. This is a great way to expand your reach on social and get discovered by new accounts. I like to post the main hashtag in my copy and then comment separately with the other 29 (or less) hashtags.

  4. Plan it out! Write down the date on your calendar (especially if you have a content calendar for social!) and go ahead and plan out the photo and copy you're going to post.

Cheers, friends!
