Content Planning - May 2021 "Days"

Like our main man JT said, “It’s gonna be May”—which means it’s time to get content planning for a new month! Whether you plan the day before, a week in advance, or a month out, Social Media Holidays are a great way to infuse some fun into your feed! Here are some ideas for content planning this month:

Before jumping in, just a few reminders about these "days":

  1. Don't post on more than a couple of these "days". No one wants to follow an account that's just full of National "Days".

  2. Make sure it ties into your brand! Why does it matter that you're chiming in on this day? Why should someone care? Can you tie your product or service to that day?

  3. Get your hashtags right! Ensure that you've got the one main hashtag and any related hashtags ready to go when you post. This is a great way to expand your reach on social and get discovered by new accounts. I like to post the main hashtag in my copy and then comment with the other 29 (or less) hashtags.

  4. Plan it out! Write down the date on your calendar (especially if you have a content calendar for social!) and go ahead and plan out the photo and copy you're going to post.

Here are a few ideas to spark some inspiration for planning out your content this month:

  • May 1st is the Kentucky Derby and is a fun day to put some color into your feed or on your Stories. Throw on your best fascinator and head to Stories to chat all things Derby Day!

  • Mother’s Day (May 9th) is a special holiday and a great day to celebrate the moms in your life! Create a story arc with the special women in your life thanking them for how they have supported you in your business!

  • International Day of Families (May 15th) is a great day to give your following a snapshot into who is behind the business- YOU!! Use this day to create a feed post of those closest to you and who brought you to where you are today. Your following wants to know more about you and this social media holiday is a great time to introduce a personal touch to your business account.

  • Post a feed post for National Hamburger Day (May 28th) to introduce a taste of summer! Ideas for this day are a grill-out post or asking your following their favorite hamburger toppings in a question box on stories! 🍔

  • Unless you have a personal tie to the holiday, we usually recommend refraining from posting on Memorial Day (May 31st) out of reverence for the holiday.
